How IP Addresses Work
An IP address (Internet Protocol Address) is a numerical identifier assigned to every device connected to the internet. The current dominant standard, IPv4, uses four groups of numbers like "192.168.1.1" and supports roughly 4.3 billion unique addresses.
Your public IP address is assigned by your ISP and is unique on the internet. Private IP addresses, on the other hand, are used only within local networks (e.g., your home Wi-Fi).
The tool returns the source address received by this site's own edge endpoint and does not forward it to a third-party IP lookup provider.
